Sam Wu is NOT Afraid of Ghosts

A stage adaptation of Katie and Kevin Tsang’s bestselling children’s book, directed by Emily Ling Williams at the Polka Theatre — a third production together following A Playlist for the Revolution and Insane Asylum Seekers. Sam Wu is supposedly not afraid of ghosts. He is, in fact, extremely afraid of ghosts. The show follows him and his friends as they take on the Ghost King in a series of increasingly ridiculous situations, with puppets, energetic physical performance, and Sam’s very confident younger sister along for the ride.
The video and lighting design had to match the pace and energy of the storytelling — fast, funny, and inclusive in its representation of Chinese culture. Splendid effects for a puppet cat named Butterbutt.
